A True Leader of Men and Nations

President George W. Bush was sworn in for a second term at noon today by
Chief Justice William Rhenquist. The President's inaugural speech followed
his oath of office. I listened to the speech on radio. The President
spoke of the historical significance of America in the world, of America as
the embodiment of human freedom and dignity, of liberty and freedom as the
highest ideals and unifying philosophy that guide America in the world and
at home, for the present and for the future. He spoke to the oppressed
people of the world, encouraging them in their quest for liberty. He
warned the dictators of oppressive regimes that America will not stand idly
at their tyranny. He honored the friendship of America's allies. He
addressed his fellow citizens, especially the youth, and spoke to them
about the need for "idealism", and for them to realize that "life is
fragile, evil is real, and courage triumphs." He asked them not to be
looking for "the wealth of the country, but for its character." He
addressed the need for economic independence as the foundation for liberty,
and as such, emphasized the need to reform the great institutions of Social
Security, Education, Health Insurance. He talked about the need for
service, of the ideal of "Liberty for All", including the "unwanted" (a
reference to the unborn targets of abortion). He did not leave out
addressing his political enemies and the need to heal the divisions. "Those
divisions do not define America," the President emphasized.

President George W. Bush is a true leader of men and nations.
