Agonizing Over a Rule While Overturning Weightier Matters of Law

The defenders of the filibuster claim that the rule has been in place for two hundred years, and changing the rule would do unpredictable harm to the Senate.

Marriage between a man and a woman has been in place for more than two hundred years. So has the natural purpose of sex, as that between a man and a woman. So has the sanctity of human life.

The lawmakers confirm judges who do not hesitate to change the laws for marriage or for the sanctity of human life, yet they agonize over changing a single parliamentary rule that has been perverted in its application and used to rob righteous men and women of their chance at serving the nation.

They are more zealous for man's rules than they are for universal moral laws. This government body deserves the condemnation of the Pharisees if it does not overcome the filibuster.
